1- Create a small seating area, preferably near a window. A window seat provides a cozy, intimate place to relax while reading or watching the wildlife outdoors.
For a modern touch when creating a stylish bedroom, paint the narrow walls flanking the window seat in a bright color, adding a seat cushion in the same vivid shade. This creates visual interest and sets off the space even more.
You can create a similar environment by positioning two upholstered chairs next to a window, with a small table in between to hold a lamp and your latest novel. Add a small footstool to rest your feet while you unwind.
If space is at a premium, place a small upholstered or leather chair in a corner, and add a floor lamp and a tall vase topped with a tray to serve as a table. A folding panel or strategically placed curtain can make the corner feel even more private.
2- Swap a wooden headboard for a tufted one. Choose a neutral-colored fabric, such as cream or light sand. Add a few large pillows in a complementary color and you’ll have a luxurious place to unwind at the end of the day.
For a simpler, but elegant option when creating a stylish bedroom, hang a few framed mirrors above your bed. Not only do mirrors look classy, they reflect light and open up the room.
3- Position a wooden blanket chest or antique trunk at the foot of your bed. Top it with a cushion in a solid color or print that matches or complements the shades of your bed linens, and add a couple of large silk-covered pillows if your bed has a foot board. You’ll have an ideal spot for resting or for changing your shoes.
If your bedroom is large, consider putting an upholstered loveseat at the foot of the bed for a touch of hotel-style luxury and comfort.
Need a place to put your flat-screen TV? Try using a sturdy painter’s easel spray-painted in a bright color. But be sure to anchor the easel to the floor or a wall so that it fully supports the weight of the television.
4- Choose colors that convey comfort. For a chic, serene ambiance, try a mix of neutrals and pastels. For example, paint the walls a soft blue and the trim a cream or light beige. That combination nicely complements a dark wood floor.
To give your bedroom a sense of cohesion and polish, make sure that the decor picks up on the colors of the walls and furniture. For example, cover your lampshades in a complementary floral print, and extend the theme in the covers for the pillows on your bed and reading chair.
5- Add elements that have texture. Sisal scatter rugs and table mats add texture and boost the comfort quotient of a bedroom. A few wicker baskets placed around the room has the same effect and really adds to a stylish bedroom.
6- Use storage solutions that double as decor. A great way to create a stylish bedroom is to add built-in shelves, where you can store books and display photos and decorative items. Built-in shelving creates a clean, uncluttered atmosphere that reinforces a sense of comfort while also being up-to-date.
