There have been many styles of furniture considered "modern furniture" throughout the 20th Century from designers around the world whose thinking has been contemporary, innovative and exciting; always with new colors, new fabrics and new materials.
The world of furniture has gone through many changes, from wood with natural textiles like wool and linen, to chrome and PVC with acrylics.
Our chairs, love-seats and sofas have gone from simple lines to fancy styles and back again to simple lines. Styles and trends are superficially changing constantly but the old classical styling will endure forever.
Furniture designers have revolutionized the world by exploring different things to do with furniture and novel materials to create furniture from. Whilst there have been style-trends that made an appearance and only stayed for a short period, there are other fashions that are classic and have remained timeless. No matter what your preferred taste is, these classic pieces have found a way into our homes and our lives.
Classic furniture designs and styles have stood the test of time and will always be here. These pieces are waiting to be placed in your home to add beauty and comfort to your environment.
These classic pieces usually have a heritage emanating from a country from which you may have your cultural roots, such as Asian furniture with it's own distinctive styling.
How could we ever forget the French provincial style that was all the rage for so many years. Every little girl dreamed of the full bedroom suit with the canopy bed and the frilly curtains, pillow and spread that the french designers were noted for, to decorate her room.
For many years neutral colors and patterns filled the furniture stores keeping the decoration in beige and browns combined with off-white hues. To give the room a pop of color, brightly colored and bold pattern pillows were used; and it was thought to be stylish! Today, the trend has been turned around and we now have furniture with vivid colors and bright patterns and with muted, soft color, plain patterned pillows as accessories. Furniture fashions are changing backwards and forwards constantly.
For those of us who were teens and young adults in the 60s and 70s; we found the bean bag chair to be classic and stylish. Although that fad came and went fairly quickly, today the teens and young adults venturing out into their own abodes or moving into crowded dorms, are finding a place to bring the bean bag back again, as it is easy, affordable and can be added quickly to provide extra seating.
No matter what our preferred style is, we manage to mix and match a few older classic pieces of our last living room suite or bedroom suite to blend in with our new furniture. Some classic styles survive and always look good, no matter the current fashion.
So today, if anyone was to ask us "What style of furniture is classic and will never go out of style" we would probably all provide different answers, because what one person regards as classical furniture is totally disregarded by another, but some styles are universally acknowledged as timeless.
